5619 successfully passed its hydraulic test and its final steam test has been booked with the boiler inspector. If this is also passed successfully, the loco will be ready to be back in operational service. 5619 was on display at Spring Village station during the Bank Holiday weekend. British Railways Class 08 Diesel 08757 “Eagle” Was noticed to have an oil leak on Monday 28th August and was taken out of that day’s services for repairs. It’s place was taken by North British diesel hydraulic No 27414 ‘TOM’ Peckett and Sons 0-4-0 saddle tank ‘Rocket’ No awaiting its 10-yearly overhaul. A move about in the shed has seen it placed over the pit, ready for stripping to commence. BR CLASS 37 No 37263 and 2- Car Class 108 DMU remain out on hire The railway had a very successful bank holiday weekend operation, with a very busy 1940’s event on Saturday. Many thanks to all the traders, re-enactors, promenaders, displays, vintage vehicle owners, singers and of course our fantastic volunteers for putting on a fantastic show. We also were treated to four flypasts from the BBMF Lancaster Bomber, which was ‘the icing in the cake’ of a great day. Next years event is already being planned, and has been expanded to two days, 24th and 25th August. We will have two scarecrows on display. The Friends will be selling Tea, Coffee and cakes and will be holding a raffle. As a special deal on the day. Anyone buying a raffle ticket will receive a free child train ticket when purchasing an adult train ticket. Raffle tickets must be presented when purchasing train tickets. Free child tickets are only valid on Sunday 3 September 2023. Ballast has been dug out from the platform road at Spring Village station in advance of some track maintenance taking place The cracked window in the Horsehay & Dawley waiting room has been replaced and more picket fencing has been installed. With the new drainage system being close to completion. The base of the old Horsehay & Dawley signalbox has been drained. It appears to still be in good condition. MK2 Tourist Standard Open (TSO) coaches The TSOs not required for the rest of the operating season have begun to have Christmas decorations put up inside, ready for the Polar Express trains. Permanent way and Infrastructure Work continues at Lawley, with the platform edge now completely removed and the infill behind cleared. The platform road at Spring Village has been weeded and tidied up. New permanent fencing is being built for the platform extension at Spring Village Drainage work at Horsehay and Dawley is nearly complete. The benefits of the new drainage system can already be seen. Fencing at Horsehay and Dawley station continues to be cleaned and painted. Training Shunter, Induction and PTS training has taken place for a has taken place for established, and new, volunteers. Tinsel has been dropped off at Lawley for storage (Christmas and the Polar Express isn’t that far away!) The drainage pipes have now been laid into the Horsehay and Dawley platform area. Catch pits have also been installed at regular intervals along the line. The temporary stairs in front of the signal box base have been carefully removed for the next catch pit to be put in. Lineside clearance continues just north of Number 1 point, with brash and branches cut back to improve sight lines. The recent weed killing program along the line has been successful. The mini dumper has had a service with oil and filters changed. The 5 ton dumper has had some repairs done to it and will be assisting top with the drainage work this week. Further progress has been made on the privately owned 20DL 2 foot diesel locomotive. The engine has been started and it is hoped to be in service next year. Tourist Standard Open (TSO) No. 5220. After work has been completed in the toilet cubicle, this carriage needs a deep clean before it can ever enter service on our Polar Express trains Brake Standard Open (BSO) No 9406 More preparation has taken place ready for the new flooring to be installed (when it is received) Work is being undertaken to make new fencing that will be installed at Spring Village station on the platform extension.
