GWR 56XX 0-6-2 tank No 5619

5619 successfully passed its hydraulic test and its final steam test has been booked with the boiler inspector. If this is also passed successfully, the loco will be ready to be back in operational service. 5619 was on display at Spring Village station during the Bank Holiday weekend.

British Railways Class 08 Diesel 08757 “Eagle”

Was noticed to have an oil leak on Monday 28th August and was taken out of that day’s services for repairs. It’s place was taken by North British diesel hydraulic No 27414 ‘TOM’

Peckett and Sons 0-4-0 saddle tank ‘Rocket’

No awaiting its 10-yearly overhaul. A move about in the shed has seen it placed over the pit, ready for stripping to commence.

BR CLASS 37 No 37263 and 2- Car Class 108 DMU remain out on hire

The railway had a very successful bank holiday weekend operation, with a very busy 1940’s event on Saturday. Many thanks to all the traders, re-enactors, promenaders, displays, vintage vehicle owners, singers and of course our fantastic volunteers for putting on a fantastic show. We also were treated to four flypasts from the BBMF Lancaster Bomber, which was ‘the icing in the cake’ of a great day. Next years event is already being planned, and has been expanded to two days, 24th and 25th August.

The railway is next open on Sunday 3rd September, when North British diesel hydraulic No 27414 “Tom” is due to be hauling our trains. We are supporting the Friends of Horsehay Pool’s ‘Scarecrow Day’. This event sees many scarecrows being created by local residents and displayed in gardens in Spring Village and around Horsehay Pool. We will have two scarecrows on display.

The Friends will be selling Tea, Coffee and cakes and will be holding a raffle. As a special deal on the day. Anyone buying a raffle ticket will receive a free child train ticket when purchasing an adult train ticket. Raffle tickets must be presented when purchasing train tickets. Free child tickets are only valid on Sunday 3 September 2023.

First departure from Spring Village (TF4 2NF - free car park) will be at 11am, with further departures at 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm.

Tickets £8 Adults, £5 Children and concessions, £25 Family. Great value season tickets, which pay for themselves after only 4 visits (not special events) are also available. Tickets allow unlimited travel on our standard gauge trains, entry into our model railway exhibition and (if open) museum.

The gift shop, second hand book stall and picnic area will also be open

The Furnaces Tearoom will be offering hot and cold drinks, ice creams, snacks, cakes and light meals to eat in or take away. Breakfast is now being served between 11am and 12pm.

The Phoenix Miniature Railway will also be open for rides (additional charges apply)

Our online shop has been revamped and enlarged to include railway books, take n play Thomas and Friends, soft toys and other items for sale.

We currently have an appeal to buy a new boiler for our narrow gauge steam tram. You can help us greatly by donating at

https://gofund.me/093e7130

As a thank you, we are offering rewards for certain levels of donations, although every single one is gratefully received and will help put our tram back into operation.

Please also consider supporting Telford Steam Railway through the Telford and Wrekin Community Lottery, which is open to anyone in the UK over 16 years old. This weekly draw gives you the opportunity to win prizes up to £25,000. Tickets cost £1 per week and 50p from each ticket sale goes directly to the railway.
