The new metal flooring is being fixed down and new wood has been delivered put on top. The baggage area has been repainted. Two shades of yellow were tested, with the paler version being approved. Work has started on the exterior of the coach removing rusted areas and replacing with new steel. One of the exterior doors is being worked on to make sure it closes correctly and replacing the broken handle. GWR 56XX tank No. 5619. Majority of the tubes have been cleaned out over the weekend, with about 20 still left to do. P- Way More track removal has taken place between Horsehay and Dawley station and the barrow crossing. Only 1 more panel needs to be lifted, and some final tidying completed before the track bed can be handed over to our contractors to put in new drainage. The ongoing work will not affect our running of service trains into Horsehay and Dawley station. This really is the start of our plans to relay the track back to Doseley Halt, roughly a mile away south, coming to fruition. Dependent on volunteer numbers and funding, we hope to reach Doseley in 3 to 5 years time. So if you’ve ever wanted to help us financially, or join us as a volunteer, now is the time to get involved. Peckett and Sons No. 1722 “Rocket” was in steam on Sunday, hauling passenger services on our steeply graded line. We also had a stand at the ‘Spring into St George’s Day’ event at the Telford Town Park. It was great to be able to meet old and new friends, and promote ourselves some more in the local community. Thanks to Doug, Dave and Andy for the additional information used in this update. We currently have an appeal to buy a new boiler for our narrow gauge steam tram. We were delighted to welcome some families of behalf of PODs (Parents Opening Doors) who support families who have a child or young person with a disability or additional need. We invited them to come and take a look at the railway, and ride on the train to assist us in making the railway fully accessible for all. It was a very useful exercise, and we are very grateful for them taking the time to visit us. We hope to see them again soon. Ruston and Hornsby No. 525947 “Rusty” Water has been found dripping down the inside of one of the cylinders which is either the head gasket or a cracked head. Work to repair it will now commence. The Furnaces Tearoom was visited by some of our mid-week volunteers, not for a cup of tea this time, but to finish off lots of little jobs that needed doing. They did a great job as usual and afterwards the tearoom volunteers were able to strip down, clean and get everything ready for our visitors. The car park and public facing areas were all tidied and cleaned, a great opportunity to sort things out and recycle or throw them away. Alice’s Adventure to Wonderland took place on Easter Saturday and Sunday. Class 08 diesel 08757 “Eagle” was in charge of the trains. This was a great success, with lots of tickets sold. We took the opportunity of loading Santa’s sleigh and bringing it back to Spring Village where it was unloaded. An all new sleigh is planned to be built for this year’s Polar Express. This holds small railway artifacts, a lot of which are local to the area. More items will be added as the season progresses. It is well worth a visit! Lineside vegetation continues to be cleared, with the area by Heath Hill Tunnel being worked on. Thank you to Ben, Ian, Doug, Shaun and Mark for the additional information used in this update.
