Volunteer Liaison Officer update 4 April
After our volunteer open day last Sunday, it was fantastic to welcome four new volunteers to the railway this week. In a change to our planned running days, Peckett and Sons 0-4-0 saddle tank No. 1722 “Rocket” will be hauling trains for the public on Monday 10th April. Everyone is welcome to come and join us. Our normal fares and timetable will be in operation, with the first train leaving Spring Village at 11am. MK2 Brake Standard Open (BSO) No. 9046 The new metal flooring has been cut to size and installed BR class 08 diesel 08757 “Eagle” The new electric oil priming pump has been fitted, tested and is working. No more hand pumping to get the oil to the right pressure before we can start her! The grill/hob has been reinstalled into the cab, and was soon in use, warming pasties for the loco crew. Class 144 Pacer No 144013. The loco refused to draw power on Sunday, leading to much head scratching. More work is required. Great Western Railway (GWR) 56XX No.5619 More preparation work has taken place ready for it to be repaired Station platform signs at Spring Village and Horsehay and Dawley have been reinstated ready for the new season The new wooden slats added to the outside of crew mess room have received another coat of paint The chassis from LMS CCTV 6 wheel wagon has left the site. Permanent Way (P-way) A track walk identified a number of small issues along the running line. These have now been resolved. More lineside clearance and burning has taken place at Horsehay and Dawley The catering shed has been rebuilt outside the furnaces tearoom The picnic areas have been mown ready to welcome our passengers and visitors. Let’s hope the sun will shine over the Easter weekend! There was a full dress rehearsal took place for the Alice’s Adventures to Wonderland event which takes place next weekend. This included train movements to confirm timings. It looks fantastic and will be a great show.
