Volunteer Liaison Officer update

Permanent Way and Infrastructure

Contractors are now on site leveling and preparing the ground to install new drainage between Horsehay & Dawley station and the Barrow Crossing. After many months of planning and preparation, this is the start of relaying track back to Doseley Halt which, depending on funds and volunteers, we hope to achieve within the next 3-5 years. Getting to Doseley will pretty much double the length of our running line to two miles, and will be a massive achievement for our railway, volunteers and supporters. If you can, your help and financial support towards this goal would be very welcome, and will us to achieve it much quicker.

Pacers 144013, 142004 and 142058

All 3 Pacers were in action over the weekend at our popular Multiple Mayhem event. On Saturday, the last train saw 142004 and 142058 working in tandem to form a four car unit. This was the first time this had happened at Telford. 142058 is likely to be the unit in use when required, during the rest of the season.

Class 108 Diesel Multiple Unit

This unit was also in action over the weekend, and covered the bulk of the Sunday departures as this was the last time that the it will be in use on the railway this year.

GWR 56XX 0-6-2 No. 5619

Repairs to this loco are progressing.

Station Gardens

Telford Steam Railway is proud to announce that Meadowdale Nurseries have sponsored a flowerbed on Spring Village station and provided fertilizer, plants and bark for our volunteer gardeners to use. We are very grateful for the support that Meadowdale Nurseries have given us, and we look forward to working together with them in the future.

Thanks to Ben and Paul for the additional information used in this update

The railway is next open on Sunday 18th June when BR Class 08 diesel shunter 08757 ‘Eagle’ will be hauling our trains.

Sanding and filling continues on the exterior of the coach. The flooring continues to be relaid. The replacement vinyl flooring is on order.

GWR 56XX tank engine No 5619

Repairs continue to be carried. Further testing and inspections are required before the loco can return to service,

Peckett & Sons Saddle tank No 1722 Rocket

After her final steaming and runs on June 4th, this loco has now been withdrawn for its ten yearly overhaul. Plans are already in place for this to happen and hopefully she will be back in service soon.

Permanent Way (P-Way)

The remaining sleepers (removed to allow drainage work) have been brought up from Horsehay and Dawley station into Spring Village yard. The track bed and surrounding area is now ready for the contractors to come on site, which will happen very shortly.

The railway ran a successful Classic Transport day on Sunday 28th May. With visiting MGs, Rovers, miniature and full sized traction engines, Land Rovers, Jaguar, motor cycles and sentinel diesel waggon, there was plenty for our visitors to enjoy. The sun shone, and the railway was very busy all day. Feedback has been very positive, and we will definitely do it again next year.

Thanks to Dave and Ian for the additional information provided for this update.
