Telford Steam Railway are proud to have signed an agreement with the National Wagon Preservation Group to enable their Coalfish MHA 394001 to be based at the railway (see news item below for more details).
The tram body continues to be worked on, with steam cleaning of the frames and and preparation of parts for repainting. The restoration of BR Class 03 D2051 is progressing, with the engine now being cleaned. Air pressure for the cleaning gun was provided by Ruston and Hornsby Class DS88 “Hector” The wicks for the oil pots on GWR 56XX No 5619 have been replaced and trimmed. Cleaning of some of the ‘hard to reach’ areas on the frames has also taken place. We expect 5619 to be in service on 31st March. Volunteers have been working hard on the model railway to ensure it is ready for when the railway reopens. New screens have been put in on part of the layout to prevent the models from being accidentally touched or knocked off the rails. The brick bases are now in place at the tearoom for the new kitchen container. Horsehay & Dawley waiting room now has pictures, a mirror and a clock hung on the walls. This has really transformed the ‘feel’ of the room, and hopefully makes it somewhere where people will want to stay a while to browse the second hand books or just listen to the birds singing outside. The waiting room doors at Spring Village have been repainted. The toilets at Spring Village continue to be repainted Thanks to Jacob for the additional information and photos used in the update A volunteer open day will take place on Saturday 23rd March. Everyone is welcome to come and see the many opportunities we have on offer. See our carriage restoration, steam tram overhaul and loco maintenance. Enjoy a ride over the line behind one of our diesels, view the model railway and speak to our current volunteers over a cup of tea or coffee in our tearoom. There are two sessions on the day and volunteers can join either the 10am or 1pm session.
