You do not need to have any experience to volunteer with us at Telford Steam Railway. All we ask is that you are positive and enthusiastic, take pride in your work and you can work as part of a team. Whatever your skills or interests we are always in need of more help; from operating services to rolling stock maintenance, helping with trackwork or assisting with retail and catering or even tending the flower beds there is a role for you. Whatever previous experience you have or qualifications you hold we will find you a role that suits you. Our volunteers are of all ages and backgrounds. Some are at university, some have retired, others take their holidays working on the railway. Certain operational roles have a minimum age of 18 due to their safety critical nature.
We have lots of volunteering opportunities for young people, those who have retired and even lots of part time options for those who can only spare a few hours each week. Volunteering on a heritage railway utilises many different skills and everyday can be a learning day. All railway’s use skills in every department that you will find in the common workplace, but do not worry if you are unsure about the idea of doing your day job as a volunteer, there are plenty of other roles that you could participate in.
Our Volunteer Open Day is a great way to meet some of our volunteer team, and be shown around some of the most important jobs our volunteers get up to, such as Locomotive Crew, Carriage Restoration and discuss the roles and responsibilities of volunteers. Enjoy a ride along our line and hear about our exciting plans for thr future, and how YOU can be involved. Come and join us at Spring Village station at either 10am or 1pm on the 23rd March. Each session lasts between 1-2 hours including a ride behind one of our diesels. Toilets and refreshments are available. Free car parking at our Spring Village station (TF4 2NF). No need to prebook, you are welcome to join us on the day. We look forward to seeing you soon! |
