The boiler washout of GWR 56XX steam loco No. 5619 has been completed. The axle boxes and oil pots have been cleaned and refilled, and the mudhole doors and washout plugs have been replaced. A new lower ash pan skin has been fabricated and a new set of fire bars have been purchased.
Removal of wood, brash and rubbish from the route of the Coronation Walk continues, and have almost reached the ‘Cheshire Cheese’ bridge (named after a now demolished nearby pub). Repairs to the roof and doors continue on BR Goods Van No. 767478 whilst it is still in the loco shed. This van is used as our ticket office and gift shop, so once the repairs have been completed, will be shunted back into Spring Village platform. The Telehandler is also being repaired, with work being done on the brakes. The Lawley station platform edge supports have been prepared and painted. These will now need to be installed Pacer 142058 has been swapped with 144013 so that it can be deeper cleaned ready for the new season. The opportunity was taken to do some Pacer driver refreshers. Repairs to 144013 have not yet started. The seat carcasses for MK2 BSO No. 9406 continue to be painted. A shelf has been added to the bar area. The floor of MK2 TSO No. 5221 continues to be removed so that repairs to the coach supports and frames can be started. The Gentlemen toilets at Spring Village are being repainted. The covers for the tram chain, water tank supports have been rubbed down and painted. Telford Steam Railway appeared at the Gauge O Guild Spring Show at Kettering on Saturday, and the Redditch MRC Exhibition on Sunday. It is great to be back out promoting the railway and meeting new and old friends and supporters.
