Our Alice’s Adventures to Wonderland event took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. BR Class 08 diesel No 08757 “Eagle” hauled the trains on all 3 days, with actors and actresses singing and performing both on the train and platforms to entertain our visitors. Passenger numbers were up on last year and feedback has been very positive. We look forward to building on our success and the event will be back next year.
The tram has begun to have its top coat of red paint applied. We are very grateful to our friend Steve Lawley, who has kindly agreed to paint the tram for us. Cleaning of the piston and cylinder continues and the tram coach has had its side panels removed so that they and the coach frame can be cleaned and repainted. Photographs loaned to the railway from the Rail Camera Club have been put up in Spring Village waiting room, with examples of Keith Pirt, Gavin Morrison and Les Nixon amongst others. Please make sure that you don’t miss our latest attraction at Spring Village station. More clearing of the Coronation Walk footpath has taken place with fallen trees and branches count up and moved to create s clear route along the bottom of the embankment. Work continues at the tearoom for the new kitchen. The rear window and door have been removed, and boarded up ready for the new container which arrived on Monday. New drainage pipes have also been put in. The tearoom will open this weekend and will then close for the next two weeks to enable the internal modifications to take place. Tea and Coffees, cakes and snacks will be served from the ‘Waffle Shack’ next to the tearoom whist the building works take place. We reopen to the public on 14th April. North British diesel No. 27414 ‘TOM’ will be hauling our trains. First departure from Spring Village is at 11am, with further departures at 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. Ticket prices Adult £10, Children £7, Family £32. SENIOR SAVER tickets will be available. A Senior (65+) can travel for £3 and enjoy a FREE cup of tea or coffee and 10% off the price of their meal at the tearoom when accompanied by a full fare paying child (2-16)(T&Cs apply, see website). Fares include unlimited travel on our standard gauge trains and entry into our model railway exhibition. The Phoenix miniature railway will also be open (Additional charges apply) and will be offering their ‘driver for a fiver’ deal.
