Volunteer liaison update
Ruston and Hornsby 0-4-0 diesel hydraulic No. 525947 “Rusty” Work on dismantling the engine has continued. It is believed that the problem is with one of the cylinder heads and this will hopefully be removed over the weekend for confirmation. Ruston and Hornsby 0-4-0 diesel mechanical No. 313394 “Jammo” Is being prepared for some attention and maintenance work to its engine and mechanics North British 0-4-0 diesel hydraulic No. 27414 “Tom” Is fully operational, and is seeing use on diesel service trains Class 142 Pacer No. 142058. Was in service on Sunday 21 May. BR Class 37 diesel No. 37263 Was at the SVR spring diesel gala. By all accounts she performed very well over the 4 days, and was very popular with the crews and visitors. There is some great footage of her in action on social media and youtube. Well done to her owners. Permanent Way (P-Way) Ongoing further line side clearance and burning has taken place south of Horsehay and Dawley station. Our next event is the Classic Transport day on Sunday 28th May. We hope to have classic cars, land rovers, E-type Jaguar, a sentinel diesel wagon, traction engine and miniature traction engine on show as well as “Rocket” hauling the trains. Special fares will be in operation - £10 Adults, £8 Children, £40 Family ticket (2 adults and 3 children). No concessions. The railway is then open on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May. Peckett and Sons steam engine No 1722 “Rocket” will be hauling our trains (No classic vehicles will be on display) First departure from Spring Village station (TF4 2NF - free car park) is at 11am with further departures at 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. Tickets for Mondays trains £8 Adult, £5 children/concessions, £25 Family (2 adults and up to 3 children). Great value season tickets which pay for themselves after only 4 visits are also available. All day tickets allow unlimited travel on all our standard gauge trains plus entry into our model railway exhibition, and (if open) museum. The Furnaces Tearoom will be open offering hot and cold drinks, snacks, cakes, ice creams and light meals to eat in or take away. The picnic area is open. Come and see if you can find all the wooden animals hiding here 😀(thanks to Pete and Alex for this). The Phoenix Miniature railway will be also be running (additional charges apply). If the weather is dry, the second hand bookstore may well be open outside the waiting room on Spring Village station. As well as railway books, we have just received a supply of gardening books, road transport and tram books. Book prices are only £2 each or 3 for £5. Come and grab yourself a bargain.
