Volunteer Liaison Officer update

23/4/2024

The tram coach has been dismantled down to the frames and the roof removed.

The cylinder and piston has been steamed cleaned to remove the dirt, rust and flaky paint. The cylinder frame has been painted in Black MOI. Once the frame that houses the cylinder has been painted, it will be ready to refit.
The water tank has also been cleaned and the rust removed. Unfortunately the water tank is in a poor condition and so a decision will be made on whether to repair or replace.
Side panels of the tram have been painted in undercoat

Coalfish Wagon MHA 394001 has arrived at the railway on long term loan from its owners, the National Wagon Preservation Group

The windows on 142 058 have been resealed which will hopefully keep the rain out. Seats have been removed for cleaning.

Work continues on Coronation Walk, with a clear route now in place between the barrow crossing and the ‘Cheshire Cheese‘ bridge.

The flowerbeds at Spring Village have been painted, as have the remainder of the toilets.

The waiting room doors at Spring Village have had a new coat of paint.

The container for the new kitchen has arrived and has been placed at the back of the tearoom. Insulation has been installed and boards fitted on top. Utilities will now be connected to it. New paving has been laid where the entrance to the kitchen will be.

Saturday saw the first steam driver experiences of 2024, with 2 participants having a day driving on 5619.

On Sunday we had our first guard’s experience and steam footplate experiences.

We had very positive feedback from all participants, and it was a pleasure to have them at the railway.

Thanks to Jacob and Ian for the additional information and photographs used in this update.

We are next open to the public on Sunday 28th April. BR Class 08 diesel No. 08757 “Eagle“ will be hauling our trains. First departure from Spring Village is at 11am, with further departures at 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. Ticket prices Adult £10, Children £7, Family £32. Fares include unlimited travel on our standard gauge trains and entry into our model railway exhibition. The Phoenix miniature railway will also be open and offering their ‘driver for a fiver’ deal. (Additional charges apply)

As a thank you, we are offering rewards for certain levels of donations, although every single one is gratefully received and will help put our tram back into operation.
