Steam Tram Driver Experience

A unique experience to drive on the UK's only Steam Tramway !

Each course will take two participants, who will each be able to drive, fire and guard our steam tram.  On your course, you will be hauling up the tram coaches, which you will have a chance to guard.

Each participant can be accompanied by up to two guests for free and can add extra guests for £12 each who may travel on the train during the course.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your Driver Experience Day starts at 09:00 at Spring Village and finishes there at approximately 15:00

The day begins with an explanation of the day's events and a safety briefing from the crew. You'll then meet the locomotive and learn about all its elements. The morning will be spent experiencing how to bring an engine round from cold and preparing it for the day ahead, before its time to drive. 

Once the tram is in steam, you'll take some test laps to get used to the engine, before taking the controls yourself and journeying round the tramway. The two participates will regularly swap between driving and guarding throughout the day, to experience both sides of tramway life. 

Lunch is provided for the participants and guests, before the final trips with your guest onboard the coach.

INFORMATION

Your Driver Experience Day starts at 09:00 at Spring Village and finishes there at approximately 15:00. The course includes:

• Explanation of the day's events and safety briefing
• Lunch at the Furnaces Tearoom for participants and guests
• Free year's membership of the Telford Horsehay Steam Trust for the participant, including member's benefits (worth up to £25)​

If there is an unexpected mechanical fault with the locomotive the experience may have to be postponed; In harsh weather conditions the experience may also have to be postponed due to the open nature of the tram. The purchaser will be contact in advance in either scenario.

Please note that participants must be over 18 yrs and must be fit enough to climb onto and off the locomotive from ground level.
Please wear clothing (not polyester) that covers your arms and legs, that you don't mind getting dirty (overalls are good), and covered shoes (ideally steel toe capped boots)
