On Sunday we welcomed Mel to the railway. Mel is the daughter of Dennis Blundell. Dennis volunteered at TSR for over 30 years, running the model railway. Sadly Dennis died recently and Mel came back to the railway to take a look around and give her late father a fitting send off. It was a pleasure to see Mel and to tell her how much Dennis meant to us, and how he is missed by all at the railway.
The gates across the shed road have been painted. The brick pedestrian crossing is nearing completion. The crossing is wider than the one it replaced, which will make if much safer for passengers when they enter or leave the platform. The contractors have completed the work in reversing the trackbed camber between Horsehay & Dawley station and the barrow crossing. Track will now be relaid and ballasted when volunteers time allows. It will have to be relaid before the Polar Express TM trains run in November. Our gardeners have been busy. The conifer has been removed from the garden in front of the tearoom. It was getting too big and was growing at an angle which meant it could topple over if not checked. The next few weeks will be spent weeding cutting back and dead heading. Thank you to Doug, Jacob and Paul for the additional information and photographs used in this update. We are next open to the public on Sunday 21st July for our Pirates and Princesses Day.
