Work continues on the rebuilding of the signal box at Horsehay & Dawley station. Bricklaying is now at the required window height at the front and Horsehay end. At the back and the Lawley end we are just seven courses short of the roof height. Blocks are now being laid insane and are halfway up the back of the box.
The ramp at Horsehay & Dawley has been weeded, and the railing cleaned. The ashpan repairs to GWR 56XX have started with panels cut and fitted. Further cleaning of the cab and motion has taken place. The steel for the carriage shed at Spring Village is being sorted before being re stored for easier access. Hopefully the car park will be emptied before the season starts! The remaining seats have been removed from MK2 TSO No 5219 and stored. The flooring has been removed. LFK No. SC14901 has been tidied, and been made more water tight. The interior of the shop (BR Goods Van No. 764478) has now completed and is now ready to be restocked. The underframe has been painted black. The body of the LNER 20t Brake Van has now been dismantled from the under frame. Priced that are required as templates for the new wood have been retained. The new rail delivered last week has been stored on the salmon wagon. Another delivery of rail is expected this week. The repainting of the body of BR Goods Van No. 764478 has now been completed, and lettering applied. She was brought out of the shed so that the under frame could be cleaned. The trailing axle boxes on 5619 have been drained and had the oil replaced. More cleaning has taken place The rail has been removed from the Salmon wagon at Lawley, and the wagon brought down to Spring Village ready for a delivery of new flat bottomed rail this week. The GWR manual crane has returned to Lawley. The fence at the picnic area has been repainted. Just one end of the exterior remains to be painted. The plan is for this to be completed this week and the van will then be shunted back into its usual position at Spring Village platform.
Cleaning of GWR 56XX No. 5619 continues in the shed with her connecting rods, motion and cab being worked on. Rebuilding of the signalbox at Horsehay & Dawley station has restarted. The height at the front is now 17 courses above the plinth bricks which is the height where the windows will be fitted. The windows will be ordered soon. The new water tank for the steam tram has been constructed by a local firm. Wooden panels have been cut and painted for the tram coach sides. Wood for the tram roof has been delivered and is being painted. Weeding and tidying of the flower beds has taken place at Horsehay & Dawley. The daffodils , snow drops and other spring flowers are all out and providing a lovely splash of colour. The fence surrounding the picnic area at Spring Village is being repainted. The floor of the station masters office has been sanded and is now being stained. The interior walls will then be painted. The platform area at Lawley Village has been levelled in preparation for the platform to be reinstalled. The class 144 Pacer No 144013 has received its 6 monthly exam and is now being cleaned on the inside. Work is continuing on repairing the doors to the 03 diesel No. 2051. Dismantling of the LNER 20t Brake Van has continued in the yard. A lot of wood from around the site has been cut up ready for the start of the 2025 season.
