Namesake Loco
This locomotive was built by Avonside Engine Company in 1924 for the Staveley Coal and Iron Company. It spent the last few years of its working life at Cranford ironstone quarry in Northamptonshire.
In Preservation Cranford was based for a number of years on the Foxfield Railway but the restoration of the locomotive was completed in April 2016 by the Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society at Scunthorpe steelworks where it had moved in 2010. It remains based at what is now the Tata Steelworks at Scunthorpe where the Appleby Frodingham Railway Preservation Society are based. |

CURRENT STATUSCranford will be joining the TSR fleet for the 2026 season. It will be out on our regular steaming days throughout the year.
The loco will help to fill the gap between the end of GWR No. 5619's boiler certificate and the return of our Peckett 'Rocket' from external overhaul. We look forward to seeing a new type of loco tackle the 1/40 gradient up our line. A test run is planned in the next few weeks, before its first public service on the 5th April. |
