37263 Driver Experience
Price £400 per person

Take the controls of a true diesel legend! This is your rare opportunity to drive our powerful BR Class 37 diesel locomotive No. 37263, built by English Electric in 1965.

Each session will take two participants, who will each be able to drive between Spring Village and Lawley Village, and also have the opportunity to drive to and from Horsehay & Dawley Station. On your course, you could be hauling up to two coaches and a brake van.

Each participant can be accompanied by up to two guests for free and can add extra guests for £7 each who may travel on the train during the course.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your experience begins with a warm welcome to the railway where you will be signed in and given a safety briefing about working on the railway. Join the driver and carry out the locomotive’s daily safety checks.

Step into the cab and begin driving light engine within the Spring Village yard, getting familiar with the controls and handling of the locomotive., Once confident, you’ll haul a set of coaches along a 1-mile stretch between Spring Village and Lawley Halt.

Finish with the most thrilling part of the experience, driving the full length of the line, including departing from Horsehay & Dawley Station on a challenging curved 1 in 36 gradient! When hauling coaches, your guests are welcome to join the train, making it an enjoyable experience for spectators too.

Please arrive at Spring Village Station (TF4 2NF) in good time for your session. Free parking is available on-site

- Limited availability: Only 2 participants per session, taking it in turns to drive 37263
- Session length: Approximately 3 hours
- Driving time: Around 1 hour per participant
- Price £400

 Session times:

• Morning: 9:00am – 12:00pm
• Afternoon: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

If there is an unexpected mechanical fault with the locomotive the experience may have to be postponed. The purchaser will be contact in advance.

Please note that participants must be over 18 yrs and must be fit enough to climb onto and off the locomotive from ground level.
Please wear clothing (not polyester) that covers your arms and legs, that you don't mind getting dirty (overalls are good), and covered shoes (ideally steel toe capped boots)

All timings and activities are subject to operational requirements and may vary at the driver’s discretion. At the end of the session, you’ll receive a certificate to commemorate your achievement of driving No. 37263. 

Our tearoom will be open on the day for the opportunity to purchase drinks, snacks and meals as required.

TSR reserves the right to change locomotives at short notice.
