Mainline Life
D2051 was built by British Railways and entered service at Hull Dairycotes on 27 January 1959.
On the 31st October 1967, the loco hauled two brake vans over part of the Scarborough to Whitby railway that had closed in 1965. This was the last official train on the line and took parties of interested buyers up to view the assets along with enthusiasts. It was withdrawn on 14 December 1972 from Colchester. It was sold to Ford Motor Company where it ran at Dagenham as No. 7 and later No.4. |

Awaiting RestorationD2051 was bought for preservation in 1997, and moved to the North Norfolk Railway in 2000. It was stored in a siding for many years, with restorations planned but nothing ever came to fruition.
In 2023 she was purchased by her current owner, and moved to Telford Steam Railway in November 2023. It is hoped that the restoration will be completed within the next few years, and the loco can begin passenger services. |
CURRENT STATUSSince arriving at TSR, work has begun on restoring the loco. Initial inspections revealed the it had a seized engine, which would require rectifying before other elements could be addressed.
The owning group have stripped the back four heads from the engine, and have begun work on the front four. So far they have managed to get half a revolution out of the engine. The front bodywork has been removed so that repairs can be made on the significant corrosion. Parts for the vacuum system have been sourced as they loco was missing all if those elements. |
