Accessibility And Our Railway

Moving Towards an Accessible Future

At Telford Steam Railway we are busy making our attraction accessible for all. We are currently working on renovating a coach which will allow us to provide wheelchair users easy access to ride on our services. We are hopeful of having this ready to enter service in time for our 2021 running season. Unfortunately our current fleet of heritage coaches do not have any wheelchair access due to the way they were constructed over 45 years ago.

Our accessible rolling stock

Over the last 2 years our volunteers have been hard at work creating an easy access coach which will enable wheelchair users to use our services during our operating days. This will allow them to participate fully in their family's day out.

Whilst the coach isn't ready to enter service just yet we thought we'd share some photos. The vehicle is a 1960's BR MK2 BSO classification of coach which stands for Brake Standard Open. This will feature wheelchair access, a serving counter for on-train snacks, and additional seating on our train!
We need to raise £20,000 to help finish this project to make us fully accessible for all. Unfortunately we can't do it without your help. Telford Steam Railway have set up a go fund me page to allow you to donate towards this ambitious project.

Please head to the page now to make a donation! (even if it's just the price of a cup of coffee no donation is too small)

Our main carpark is flat and accessible. We can also accommodate a limited number of vehicles next to our Tearooms and Model Railway.

Accessible Areas and Toilets

Our main station at Spring Village, the Ticket Office and Gift Shop are all easily accessible by wheelchair.

An ‘Easy Access’ toilet is located by the tram in the yard behind the engine shed.

Access to Horsehay & Dawley station is down a very steep, paved, ramp from road level.

Access to Railway House which includes the Model Railway and Furnaces Tearoom is at road level.
