Stage 2 : Horsehay & Dawley to Lightmoor
Phase 1 Southwards - to Doseley Halt
The route south to Doseley halt is already available and for the most part has been laid with track which is frequently used by works trains loaded with the spoil taken from the northern excavations. This track had to be installed as part of the stage 1 development because a requirement of the existing planning permission was that most of the spoil had to be removed by train rather than road. The spoil is being used productively in the development of a woodland area next to the track close to Doseley. Whilst the track is suitable to operate works trains we still have work to do to bring the railway track south of Horsehay and Dawley station up to passenger carrying standard. For this we need several hundred new sleepers, additional rail and lots of ballast.
Phase 2 Doseley Halt to Lightmoor
Progress beyond Doseley Halt will be dependent on having attained the required legal authorisation, without
this any investment in track beyond Doseley will serve no purpose. The limit of the southerly most track
extension in stage 2 will be just before the A4169 road at Lightmoor where we will set up a temporary platform.
The railway embankment was breached during the construction of the A4169 road and prevents railway access for
the last quarter mile to Lightmoor junction on the Madeley Junction to Ironbridge power station freight only
line. During this part of the development there would be an additional cost of equipping the Doseley road
crossing for the method of working stipulated in the Transport and Works Order.
The extended route length combined with the attractive nature of the line should make it viable to hire in
appropriate main line locomotives to further increase the appeal of the railway. A pannier tank locomotive
with our auto coach behind blasting round the curve into Horsehay and Dawley station will see the recreation
of a scene last witnessed at Telford Steam Railway over 40 years ago.
