Guidelines for Visitors to Telford Steam Railway
Mobility
At Telford Steam Railway we use ex British Rail coaches, which are notorious for the problems they
create for wheelchairs. Narrow wheelchairs can be accommodated on the brake van (GWR Toad).
Our Main station at Spring Village, the Furnaces Tea Room and Shop are all
easily accessible by wheelchair. However please note that the platform has a
gravel surface.
An 'Easy Access' toilet is located by the Tram in the yard behind the engine shed.
Access to Horsehay and Dawley station is down a very steep, paved, ramp from road level. Access to the Model Railway and Furnaces Tearoom and Santa's Grotto are at road level and there is limited space for disabled parking alongside the tearooms. However these are situated only a very short distance (100 yards) from the main car park (see Virtual tour of Telford Steam Railway ).
Visually Impaired
We are able to provide guided Tactual Tours provided these are booked in advance. The provision of raised maps and large print documents is being investigated. Please contact the Webmaster for up to date information.
